Dear Sandy Valley Elementary Families,

I am excited to welcome you to the start of the 2025–2026 school year. It is truly an honor to serve as Principal in this incredible school district!

This summer, the Sandy Valley team has been working diligently to ensure our students receive the highest quality education. Our mission is to equip every student with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive.

As we begin this new year, I encourage you to support your child in getting involved and taking advantage of the many opportunities Sandy Valley has to offer. Engagement in academics, activities, and the school community is key to a rewarding elementary experience.

We are looking forward to another amazing school year here and to see how high these Cardinals can soar!

Sincerely,

SVE Updates Report Card to Reflect New Reading Curriculum

Sandy Valley Elementary is proud of the incredible growth our first- and second-grade students have made during the first nine weeks of school! Teachers and staff are thrilled with their progress and look forward to continued success throughout the rest of the year.

This year, families will notice a slight change to the look of the report card for first and second graders. With the adoption of our new reading curriculum, the report card has been updated to better reflect how student progress is measured in reading.

The reading section now includes two categories that describe the areas of focus within this important subject. Teachers will review these focus areas during upcoming parent-teacher conferences and are happy to answer any questions.

To help families better understand student progress, reading scores will be reported using the following scale:

  • 3 – Meets the expectation

  • 2 – Progressing toward the expectation

  • 1 – Limited progress toward the expectation

Teachers will explain how these scores connect to traditional percentage grades (such as 90%, 85%, etc.) and what each level represents in your child’s learning journey.

For most families, these changes will be subtle, but SVE wanted to share this update in advance of the first report cards being sent home in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to make this a successful school year for every student!
