Message from the Superintendent
Spring Forward
Each year, as winter fades,
we’re reminded that spring is on its way. A 40-degree day can feel almost magical, a sign of brighter days ahead. But with spring also comes rain, storms, and unexpected changes.
In many ways, spring’s turbulence mirrors the challenges we face in education. Every two years, the state of Ohio prepares a biennium budget, and changes at the federal level can add further uncertainty. These shifts can feel like sudden spring storms—unpredictable and sometimes disruptive. However, just as we say in Ohio, "Wait 24 hours, and the weather will change," so, too, does the educational landscape.
Rest assured, the Sandy Valley Board of Education, through its leadership and experience, is prepared for these unpredictable times. Whether it’s sunglasses and shorts or snow shovels and parkas, our district is ready. Thanks to the BOE’s vision, along with the dedication of our administration and staff, we can weather any storm. Through it all, we’ve remained steadfast in our commitment to our students and community.
Unlike other state agencies where budgets may focus on “products” or “projects,” in education, our priority is ALWAYS our students. For over a decade, we have remained dedicated to providing consistent, high-quality education in the most fiscally responsible way possible. Our incredible staff continuously expands their skills, allowing us to offer College Credit courses, Career Tech programs, and multi-subject instruction—all in-house. Many of our staff wear multiple hats: teachers who instruct advanced courses, cafeteria staff who also drive buses, and mechanics who handle not just repairs but bodywork, also. This cross-training and teamwork has resulted in significant cost savings over the years. In addition, Sandy Valley is lucky to have board members who are involved in many aspects in the district - from participating in our booster clubs, assisting with our Agricultural Programs, operating game clocks at sporting events, providing free dental checks, and lending their sound board expertise in our Performing Arts Hall while also being our resident DJ! This dedication is contagious—I, too, wear multiple hats, whether it's using my CDL to drive a bus when needed or volunteering as a coach! All of these additional efforts from the Sandy Valley staff and leadership help maintain morale, save money, and provide our students with a first-class experience!
And just like no one truly enjoys a rainy day, it always brings a smile to my face to see our youngest students in their bright raincoats and boots, jumping in puddles—prepared and embracing the moment. That’s exactly how we approach challenges at Sandy Valley. We are prepared to spring forward, ready for whatever comes our way, all while maintaining our Positive Cardinal Attitude!
Because with rain comes growth. And together, we will continue to thrive!
Stay safe, stay healthy, and Go Cards!
