Message from the Superintendent

Hello Cardinal Families!
I’d like to take a moment to share a little about myself and my path to becoming the new superintendent of Sandy Valley Local Schools.

I am a proud 1996 graduate of Sandy Valley High School, where I served as valedictorian before attending Mount Union College. My wife, Leigh Ann, is currently a principal at RG Drage Technical Center. Together we have one son, Cole, who just graduated from Sandy Valley this past May as Salutatorian. He is now a freshman at Kent State University majoring in Integrated Social Studies with a minor in Coaching.

After college, I taught World and American History at GlenOak High School for ten years, also coaching girls’ basketball. In 2012, I returned home to Sandy Valley as assistant principal for grades 6–12, then served nine years as high school principal, and most recently worked as Director of Special Programs and Staff Development. This year, I am honored to step into the role of superintendent.

What I love most about Sandy Valley is the family atmosphere. People here genuinely care about one another, and the kindness in this community is something very special. My roots in Sandy Valley run deep—my father still lives here, my son graduated here, and I’ve spent over 40 years connected to this district and community.

As superintendent, my mission is simple: to always do what is best for kids. I believe in the value of hard work and hope that every Sandy Valley student discovers their “why” before graduation—the path that inspires them and helps them pursue their goals with purpose.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve our students, staff, and families in this new role, and I look forward to building on our successes together.

Go Cards! Caw Caw!

Matt Whitted
Superintendent, Sandy Valley Local Schools
