Sandy Valley's SRO Deputy Matthews

Sandy Valley's SRO Deputy Matthews

Sandy Valley Schools is proud to welcome Tuscarawas County Deputy Duane Matthews as our new School Resource Officer. Deputy Matthews has already made a positive impact throughout our district!

Deputy Matthews brings a wealth of experience to Sandy Valley. He served in the United States Marine Corps before continuing his commitment to public service with the Canton Police Department. He earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Park University.

He said his favorite parts of Sandy Valley are interacting with students, collaborating with supportive staff, and getting involved as a wrestling coach.

Deputy Matthews also plays a key role in helping the district enhance safety measures, one being the Raptor system. This important tool is used to keep our schools secure for building  visitors and to ensure students are always released to their proper caregivers.

Above all, Deputy Matthews wants the community to know that he is committed to making a difference. “My goal is to make Sandy Valley Schools a safer place for students and staff than when I arrived,” he shared.

We are grateful to have Deputy Matthews as part of the Cardinal family!
