Sandy Valley Local Schools Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award Information:
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed upon by the Sandy Valley Alumni Association. This award recognizes outstanding alumni and staff of Sandy Valley Local Schools who have gone above and beyond the norm in professional and personal endeavors to positively affect their profession, community, and their fellow man. This award also recognizes an individual who embodies the ideals and spirit of Sandy Valley Local Schools and inspires others through exceptional role modeling and a continued dedication to excellence in all their varied accomplishments.
The Process: A selection committee consisting of the current Sandy Valley High School Principal and four to five Sandy Valley High School alumni reviews nominations to identify individuals who uphold the values and mission of Sandy Valley Local Schools and who serve as strong role models for current and future students. Through this process, current students gain the opportunity to recognize and appreciate the lasting contributions of those who graduated before them.
Upon selection, the recipient will be honored at the Induction Ceremony held in conjunction with the Sandy Valley High School Annual Scholarship Banquet held on the first Saturday of May. A copy of their award will be placed on the Alumni Hall of Fame wall located in Sandy Valley High School’s Event Entrance.
The committee looks at the following criteria for their ideal candidate:
- Must have graduated from Sandy Valley High School 10 years prior to the year in which the award will be presented or was employed by Sandy Valley Local Schools for a minimum of 10 years.
- Must have demonstrated a recognized achievement in their profession. These areas include business, industry, military, education, medicine, non-profit service organizations, the arts, community service, government, and charitable endeavors.
- Posthumous nominations are accepted.
- Nomination may come from a family member, fellow alumni, or any other individual with knowledge of that individual’s accomplishments, but not the alumni themself.
Nominations are due March 1st, 2026. Nominations will be held for a three-year period from the year of submission.
