Sandy Valley has been working to plan alternative arrangements for many milestones that typically occur at the end of an SVHS student's senior year.  We'll post updates to this page as more information becomes finalized.

    Graduation on May 17th

May 17th is Graduation Day – We are planning a Virtual Graduation Ceremony at 7 p.m. on our Sandy Valley YouTube, website and social media.

Sandy Valley’s most pressing concern is for our Class of 2020 seniors. We know that everyone wishes we could have an in-person graduation ceremony but we feel strongly that this rite of passage needs to happen on schedule as our students have many different plans after graduation.

With the limited accessibility, the Governor is predicted to grant in May, SV intends to graduate our seniors “individually” on the original graduation date, May 17. Graduation will happen in two parts: First, we want our seniors to wear their caps and gowns and be able to walk across the stage. On May 17, graduates and their families will sign up for their “individual” time slot and come into the building. They will walk across the stage, receive their diploma and have their picture taken by JM Sports Photo and will immediately exit the building to maintain social distancing and allow the next “individual” graduation.  Sandy Valley will have these photos printed and will give them as a gift to each senior along with their actual diploma, DVD of the graduation video and their senior t-shirt on a pick-up date following May 17. Second, we will premiere a graduation video at 7 p.m. on all of our social media outlets. This video will follow our traditional graduation ceremony as close as we possibly can. Seniors will be recognized using their Josten’s senior photos and each child's name will be recognized as they receive their diplomas. This video will also be put on DVDs and given to each member of the Class of 2020 along with their t-shirt.

We know that all of these plans are different than in the past, but we want to still make graduation special for all of our seniors and showcase their hard work and accomplishments over the past 13 years.

We appreciate your ongoing support and positivity as we get through this together. #SVClassof2020 #InThisTogetherOhio #ForeverACardinal

Whether or not you plan to attend in person for your “individual” diploma and photo; we need every senior to respond to the following survey:

    Further Graduation Clarification:

    • Each family can have a total of 8 people for their picture
    • If time slots are overbooked, we may call and reschedule a time with you. If you are not contacted, your time is fine.
    • We were advised not to delay graduation to later in the summer due to the restrictions of the number of people to be allowed to gather.
    • Caps and gowns pick up information has been emailed individually to your child’s Sandy Valley email account. It is important for seniors to check daily leading up to the event. Any questions about caps and gowns, should be emailed Mr. Riesen at
    • If you have not done so already, please fill out your senior t-shirt size here:

    Virtual Award/Scholarship Recognition Events

Academic, athletic and arts awards are a favorite tradition and include surprise awards for some seniors.  We are working on a date to debut the awards.

    Cap and Gown Distribution

Caps and gowns have been distributed to most seniors, however we have contacted seniors who still need to pick up their caps and gowns and that will happen on Wednesday, April 19, from 3-5 p.m. in front of SVHS. Those still needing caps and gowns have been notified via email. For all cap and gown questions, please email Mr. Riesen at

To order your cap, gown and/or tassel, please go here AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:

    Senior Graduation Lawn Signs

We are pleased to announce that Academic Booster Club will have seniors signs for each member of the Class of 2020.

    Senior Recognition Webpage

We are creating a webpage within the SV website that will honor seniors and include a teacher "shout out" message.  We will email all students and post on social media when this is complete.

There is still time to order your Sandy Valley High School 2019-2020 yearbook  Here is the ordering link:

Seniors, the yearbook staff is still in need of your senior photo and baby/toddler picture and senior quote. Please email those to Mrs. Irwin at

    Academic Booster Club

A message to the SV Class of 2020 from the Academic Booster Club: The Academic Booster Club (ABC) would like to congratulate the Class of 2020 on their upcoming graduation!

With the school buildings closed due to COVID-19, we are unable to have the Academic Social this year, but seniors will receive plaques and certificates. The ABC is also awarding three $250 Scholarships (one for a senior invited to the social, one is the Pam Sewell VIP Scholarship, and the last is the Corinne Haney Memorial Scholarship).

The Academic Booster Club is honoring the top 30 academic seniors with a gift card and $20.

The Academic Booster Club is in the process of getting the Senior Signs made and they will be delivered to when they are ready.

This year, 16 Seniors will receive a Four-Year plaque - which is outstanding. These seniors have earned a 3.5 or better GPA for the first 3 nine-week grading periods for their entire high school career. They will receive a plaque with a space for their 5x7 portrait and an engraving of their accomplishments. Six seniors will receive their 3-Year Letter Plaque, eight will receive a 2-year Certificate/Letter, six will receive a 1-Year Award, and 13 Merit Winners. Congratulations to all of these Super Seniors!

Way to go, Cardinals! If there are any questions about the Academic Booster Club, please email Pam Miller at

Distribution of Awards, Posters, Senior Shirts, Etc.

We know there are other items to be shared such as diploma distribution, senior t-shirts, athlete posters, the collection of personal belongings from lockers, and the turning in of books, etc.  We are working on procedures to address these items.  All information will be shared via email and updated on our website and social media outlets.
