Message from the Superintendent

  • I happened upon a book by Charlie Mackesy titled The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. The story depicts four unlikely friends on a journey for home. At one point in the story, the mole poses this question: “Is your glass half empty or half full?” asked the mole. “I think I’m grateful to have a glass,” said the boy.

As we journey through this madness of Covid and the many opinions, regulations, and uncertainty swirling around us, it is very easy to lose our way. But I began to think about this quote and the fact that the holiday season is here, and I feel this could not be a better time for an attitude of gratitude.

Let me first say thank you to our entire faculty and staff, and especially our nurses who have worked tirelessly to assure a safe and viable learning environment. I am grateful for everyone’s dedication to our students.

To the entire Sandy Valley community: everyone in our district expresses our sincere appreciation for your willingness to come together and pass the school levy even during these arduous times.  You, too, have played a role in supporting our greatest and most precious commodity – our students.

Thank you for taking this journey with us, with all its ups and downs, to ensure the future of Sandy Valley.

“We have a long way to go,” sighed the boy. “But look how far we have come,” said the horse.

Wishing you all a beautiful holiday season filled with gratitude and hope.

    Go Cardinals!

    David J. Fischer

    Superintendent
