SVHS English and Foreign Language Students Take Annual Trek to CIFF 2018!

Students in Mrs. Irwin’s English 11 classes and members of Mrs. Monter’s Spanish Club had another fantastic experience at the 2018 Cleveland International Film Festival on Friday, April 6.  The annual trip is a unique and fun opportunity for students to experience other cultures outside of the Valley. Both groups of students saw a variety of short films that varied in length from 10-30 minutes. English students viewed the International Shorts, while Foreign Language students viewed the Spanish Shorts.

A highlight of the morning was a film entitled Zion, a short documentary about local wrestler Zion Clark, who, despite being born without legs, has risen to prominence as a wrestling and track athlete. Both Zion and his coach, who happens to be the twin brother of our very own Mr. Donahue, were present following the film screening for a Q & A with the students, and were gracious enough to have their picture taken with the Sandy Valley group.

Yearly, this trip is funded in part by the “Yellow School Bus Grant,” a generous grant from the Ohio Arts Council.  Without these funds, transportation to and from the Festival would not be possible. This field trip is always an educational and cultural experience, and this year was no exception!
