Sandy Valley Local School district is participating in the nationwide Start with Hello Week.

In every school and in every community, there are young people who feel left out, alone or invisible. Social isolation is a common problem and next week (February 12th-16th) we are all participating in the Start with Hello program to help eliminate this at Sandy Valley Schools.

Start with Hello Week will help students reach out and include others and create a culture of inclusion and connectedness at our schools. Remember we are in this together and it only takes ONE hello to make someone smile.

Monday- February 12th- Take the pledge to include others and stop social isolation. Take time to sign the poster in the cafeteria. When you sign the pledge, you’ll receive a suicide awareness ribbon.

Tuesday- February 13th-  Mix It Up Day- sit by someone different at lunch today. Try to make a new friend if you can. If you are able to choose a partner in class, try and choose someone that you do not normally work with.

Wednesday-February 14th- “Disconnect to connect” challenge yourself to stay off electronic devices today in order to connect with those around you: classmates, siblings, parents, teammates. Also, wear pink or red to help “Share the Love.”

Thursday- February 15th- Today the students will receive name tags. They must wear the name tags throughout the school day. Today is all about SAYING HELLO to people we might not know. Challenge yourself to say hello to at least 5 new people today and use names all day long. (There is a list of ways to say HELLO on the back)

Friday- February 16th- Try to make a new friend today.Wear your #StandingTogether t-shirts. Thanks for saying HELLO and being a part of our great week!!!

The nationwide Start With Hello movement, part of the Sandy Hook Promise, is a national non-profit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. For more information, please click here.
