Our Nation, Our Constitution: Constitution Day 2017

Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States, once said, "To live under the American Constitution is the greatest political privilege that was ever accorded to the human race." The United States Constitution was signed and put into effect on September 17, 1787. This was eleven years after the Declaration of Independence.

The first three words of the Constitution, "We the People," is one of the most well-known beginnings to any historical documents. The Constitution and its Amendments are the guidelines to our nation. Most, however, do not know the rest of the opening line. It is, "“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
